Partial Lore of the Server

The incense burns and fills the room with a frozen veil floating in the dimness of the curtains with their thousand colors faded by time. In the center, a fire is regularly fed with new logs to warm the curious adventurers who dared to enter the storyteller's yurt. The fire crackles, and discussions are lively but whispered not to disturb the serenity that this place inspires. The sound of rustling fabric leaves no doubt; everyone stops talking at the arrival of the blind old woman. She advances without ever hitting any obstacle, with a disconcerting lightness despite her advanced age, before settling into her old chair, adorned with stones and broken artifacts. They all wait for the wise woman to tell the story of the Traveler, their eyes fixed on her wrinkled lips. They hold their breath one last time as the woman takes a deep breath and finally speaks.

• A long time ago, the Traveler appeared, bringing with him his share of mysteries and power. No one has ever seen him, but his words are passed down from generation to generation to the most venerable among us. He created, shaped this world with great cataclysms, and then formed the one on which you arrived, young people; he will later take the name of the lands of exile. This world is governed by its own laws and rules forged by past civilizations. It is also moved by an energy that runs through it from one end to the other, to the point of attracting beings from outside our known world, which the great sages, the bearers of light, call the planes of existence.

She raises her frail wrist and then makes the magic bracelet in the shape of a serpent tinkle with those covering her bony arms.

• The Traveler made it a unique and autonomous place whose exact location is unknown to anyone and from which no one can leave because of this bracelet, whose story I will tell you later.

The blind sage feels her stunned audience in this heavy silence, which drinks her words like a long litany in honor of their respective gods before resuming her story.

• I hope you understand, the Traveler endowed this world with a life of its own. Like a vine that runs along the ground in search of water, its energy radiates and crisscrosses time in search of new epochs with which it could harmonize and expand. Depending on the conjunction of the stars, mists arise in these other planes of existence parallel to this one or in this world. Whoever then crosses them finds themselves on the lands of exile, cut off from their old existence, like a rebirth. The fauna and flora, coming from these different worlds, are heterogeneous and unique. It is also not uncommon to encounter beings very different from you... In fact, who knows... I may have a lost soul in this yurt tonight?

The sage points vaguely at the adventurers in front of her, smiling weakly as some turn away or hide their differences under large hoods. Sometimes frightening, or friendly, simple creatures, or endowed with magic that they have managed to adapt to the lands of exile, remain vigilant dear children.

• But despite the dangers, this land is rich and invites you, peoples from here and elsewhere, to an exceptional destiny! I could tell you about the struggles that oppose the civilizations and factions of this world, but that will be for another time...
